pre-spring cleaning

I just cleaned my entire house! Seriously. All of it. The kids' rooms were horrid. They took me 3 1/2 hours. Books, clothes, garbage... I changed the boys' room around, hopefully Murphy doesn't freak out tonight. I think the change will be better, maybe it will be more efficient now. I put alot of toys on the bookshelf I moved from the living room. It will probably be cleaned off 10 minutes after they get home from school.

Miyo's room seems huge when all the clothing and toys are off of the floor. I have made a pact with myself, hopefully I stick to it. I am going to pick up their rooms every night before bed. Let's see how many hours I keep this idea in my head.
And the reason some of this was possible:

Ha, I am doing the same thing today. I cannot take it anymore! After the 800th time of stepping on a lego barefoot something had to be done.

I am also cleaning the house. Funny! I just vaccumed up a strawberry from 3-5 mths ago. I kept seeing it, but always too busy to stop, bend over and actually pick up the darn thing. That felt soo great! your house looks wonderful.

I got as far as my living room & kitchen. Woohoo! Don't go in my bedroom, though. The dust bunnies will carry you away, unless you get lost behind a mound of clothes.

Miyo looks so innocent sleeping. If a stranger saw her asleep they wouldn't even realise how evil she is. And a warning Kasey, Miles or Murphy are going to try to climb that bookshelf to get on the bed. I know because that would be the first thing I would want to do.

When you spring clean, what does that entail? I don't actually do it like my mom does. I remember when we lived at home, once a year we'd be down on the floor scrubbing base boards with a brush. I have never done that here in my own house. Spring cleaning for me means de-cluttering and cleaning the really disgusting things. Your pre-spring clean looks pretty post-spring clean to me.

P.S. I love the rug in Miyo's room

Wow all this cleaning you guys are doing makes me feel as if I need a break. I think I won't clean this weekend. Kasey I thought pre-spring cleaning pictures would be pictures of before and after, so I'm like wow, this ain't bad, what are the after photos gonna look like and then I read.

You must have been watching Oprah yesterday. She is sending some guy around the country with a crew in several VW convertibles to knock on doors and declutter peoples homes. Divine Design Candace Olson was with them. I was inspired but then I fizzled. Come on up and do mine, eh?

I clean what is completely putrid. I don't have pristine corners... Accomplishing spring type cleaning is finding and throwing away an apple Murphy ate half of and then decided to put under Miyo's bed or a dresser. I didn't mop because I mopped a week ago. I didn't dust cause I was busy vacuuming out the boys' toy box (there was stuff in there you wouldn't believe). I did what HAD to be done. And de-cluttering for me means getting rid of kids' Mcdonald toys and crap. My stuff stays-I love crap. I am definately not a minimalist.

Why don't you make the kids pick up there own room before they go to bed?

I am jealous of your pre spring cleaning, I love spring cleaning, and I love my house when it is done, but it takes me two or three weeks because I clean every drawer and closet and drape and curtain and windows, ect. and I flip my matresses and air every pillow and comforter on the line and they smell fresh and clean(like spring), and when I walk with my bare feet across a sparkling floor, and get in my fresh spring smelling bed to go to sleep with the knowledge there is not one speck of dirt in my house, it is like complete fullfillment. Only now it has not happened for three years, but I still yearn for it.

Wow Keri, that sounds slightly...obsessive. But your clean house description sounded really nice, wonder what it would feel like to be in a clean and or finished house. Meh! At least I have you vodka, thanks for always being there for me. lol

Yes, I have to agree Vodka is good too!
